Shooting Double-gap

| Double-gap shooting using dribble attacks and blast cuts. Start with 2 on 0 then 3 on 0, using scripted progressions then unscripted to work on decision-making, e.g. blast cut when the ballhandler does not attack or makes eye contact. Scoring options - catch and shoot, pull-ups, floaters, layups.
Option - to work on making and reading quick attack-or-not decisions (e.g. "0.5"), have players spin a self-pass as a trigger, or coach passes to each player. For drills using coaches as passers, see Layups - Open-post motion. 2 on 0 a) top-corner b) wing-cornerc) wing-wing3 on 0 a) top-corner-cornerb) top-corner-wingc) top-wing-corner (on one side) d) wing-wing-cornerSee Offence - MacKay single-double gaps, with blast cuts and dribble-drive motion, plus (Euro) weave action, zoom action. 2 on 0 a) Top-corner Shooters in the corners, alternate sides, passers are (usually) the next shooters, 1 and 2 go first, then 4 and 3. Options (progressions) for 1 and 2 - corner kick-out off the dribble, 1 dives to post up, 2 shoots (shown), or attacks and 1 escapes opposite - drop-zone backcut, kickup - kickup, throwback to the corner for a shot - veer DHO or backcut - skip pass (early) - 2 blast cuts for a pass, attacks baseline or middle, 1 fills behind - 2 blast cuts for a pass, does not attack and/or makes eye contact with 1, who backcuts for a pass - any option. On a blast cut, optionally shorten the pass with a dribble and/or space away on the pass. See Shooting - Dribble-drive 1-2-3 set, Dribble-drive 2 on 0, Layups - Blast cuts, also Tactics - Teaching 4-out motion (including 1-on-1). Variation - on a blast cut, pass and basket cut, see Open-post motion layups. |

| 2 4 and 3 go next, here 4 corner kicks, dives, and escapes opposite a baseline drive.
Progression - escape shooting - 3 drives and throws it back to 4 for a shot.
See Doug Novak shooting drills. |

| b) Wing-corner
Shoot from one side, continue, change sides (not alternating sides).
i) 1 attacks middle, options
- corner kick-out - drop-zone backcut (shown), kickup, kickup-throwback - veer DHO or backcut. ii) 1 attacks baseline, passes to 2 in the weakside corner. Variation - 2 lifts to the weakside 45 (in a game, another player is in the short corner or backing out to the corner). |

Variations - 2 makes a 45 cut, or drifts to the corner (if empty in a game). See Shooting - Penetration, 3-on-0 kick-out, 3 drives 3 shots, Tactics - 4-out 1-in drive-kick-shoot, Wheel movement. |

| 5 iii) 1 does not attack (or on eye contact), 2 blast cuts for a pass, can attack right or left (or shoot).

Progression - any combination.
See Shooting - Ouse drive and kick chaos, Dribble-drive 3 on 0, also 3-line drive and kick. |

| 7 On a blast cut, 2 can drive baseline for a pass to 3 in the corner (or lifting to 45 degrees).
Novak - 2 could drive middle or baseline on a 1-2 DHO. |

| b) Top-corner-wing
3 moves up to the wing.
1 and 2 have the same options as above, here a veer DHO.
i) If 2 attacks middle, 3 can backcut, or Euro cut for

3 can blast cut then backcut for a pass. |

| c) Top-wing-corner on one side
Wing 4 creates a double gap with a backcut or pin-down screen, and reacts to dribble penetration.
Rotate 1 to 4 to 2 (shooter off), or 1 to 2 to 4 (who rebounds and goes off), or all three players go off with new players for the next rep.
i) Dribble attack
4 backcuts, 1 attacks into a kickup with 2, 4 exits weakside.
Progression - 4 can fill behind 1's penetration (in a game, X4 helps across or down).

See Using Zoom.
Breakthrough Basketball - Zoom Action Playbook - use a chair as the zoom screen. |

| 16 iv) Centre the ball
The ball is on the wing. 1 centres the ball to the top of the key than backcuts or screens for 2.
Options
- 1 chases the pass to get a handback (Get action), or ballscreen - 2 flare screens for 1, into a 5-2 DHO if there is no pass.
