Defending
UConn 2 on 3 trapping

sketch

Jim Calhoun

X3 and X2 trap when 3 attacks baseline and keeps his dribble alive. The trappers have their arms straight up, they foul with the body. X1 rotates down to take 2, denying a pass out of the trap.

UConn's defensive principles are

- ball pressure, everywhere
- 1-4 (the other four defenders have responsibility for the ball)
- force the ball (sideline, baseline)
- contain the ball (deny penetration)
- rotation
- contest the shot
- rebound and run.

(Variation - X1 defends a coach)
