See Defending - Hip turns.

a) Defender X1 is about 2-3 feet closer to the near baseline than attacker 1, and has his feet square to the far baseline. 1 drives baseline, X1 must quickly hip turn, crossover step, and stay between 1 and the basket, 1 then changes direction and dribbles to the elbow, X1 must stay between 1 and the basket but be careful not to cut off the dribbler and allow a spin move. X1 must maintain a gap to avoid fouling or getting beat on a spin move, and to have more room to recover on a crossover move..

b) Progress to 1 on 1 live, the attacker must first attack baseline, forcing the defender to use a hip turn and crossover step.
