Defending
Close-out to challenge

coachesclipboard.ca

Two defenders under the basket pass to attackers and start to make a close out. A proper close-out begins with a sprint half the distance to the ball then step slides to get under control. However, when the defender sees that a shot is coming he will continue the sprint, jump and challenge the shot, going by the shooting side of the shooter and trying to get a piece of the ball. Rotate shooters to defenders.

Option - attackers must shoot to begin with, helping defenders understand how far they can come out and still get a piece of the ball.
