Defending
Bill Self 4 on 4 in the lane

Move a shell drill into the lane. Attackers pass across the top and can backscreen, cross-screen, downscreen, duck in, continue. Defenders go ballside of every screen, it's a cop-out when guys want to piggy-back or trail screens because they're not jumping to the ball. Hands up and back up on backscreens, we're jumping to the ball, stepping back and discouraging on downscreens, empty the post on cross-screens, high and loose on duck-ins.

See Bill Self cross-screens.

For example,

a) 4 backscreens for 2, X2 jumps to the ball to go ballside, X4 stays back with hands up.

b) 3 cross-screens for 2, X3 empties the post (stays with his back to the basket as the screener goes away), X2 goes ballside. 1 passes to 4, X4 closes out.

c) 1 downscreens for 2, X1 steps back and discourages a pass, X2 goes ballside.

d) Continue when 4 passes to 2, e.g., 3 backscreens for 4, 4 downscreens for 3 (or 1 cross-screens for 3).

Progression - go live on a signal, try to score.

(Switch sides if the pattern is repetitive)
