Quick hitters
Fist

sketch
1

1 first looks to hit 5 posting up. If 5 is fronted, 1 looks to make a lob pass, or can pass to 4 who looks to hit 5 sealing inside or passes to 3 who hits 5 (Miami Heat).

1 dribbles over the screen set by 4 to drive the basket, pull up for a shot if the defender goes under the screen, pass to 4 rolling to the basket or in the low-post area, or pass to 2 or 3 spotting up.

5 reads screener 4 and goes opposite. If 4 rolls to the basket, 5 moves up weakside. If 4 pops out top, 5 rolls to the basket.

Shaq option - 4 picks and pops, 5 stays low.

Variations

- 4 pops out for a pass from 1 who goes opposite for a high-post isolation
- run Argentina triangle motion if 1 passes to 2 (1 screens for 5 then gets a screen from 4). See Mavericks little-big quick hitter.

1 hits 5, who can drive or hit 4 inside. 1 screens away for 2 after passing to 5.

Variation - options are the same as in Horns 1 sidescreen.

Otherwise 3 breaks for a pass from 5, who sets a ball screen then rolls to the basket.

Variations

- 5 fades to the corner, 4 cuts across the lane (Rick Majerus)
- 4 backscreens for 5 when 5 ballscreens for 3 (Boston)
- 5 screens away for 2 (a staggered screen with 1)..

Re-screen option (Greece 2006).

Spurs variation - 5 is a 3-point shooter.

The Cleveland Cavaliers put 5 on the right wing.

Last possession option. The screen by 4 is intended to slow down defensive collaboration on the pick and roll.

See the Victory weave and Four-down quick hitters for other options out of the 1-4 flat set.
