4. Shooting

  • Basic
    • BEEEF - balance, eyes, elbow, extension, follow-through
    • Spot-up, on the move, off the dribble
    • Use a hop
    • Free throws
  • Intermediate
    • Spot-up - anchor foot, 1-2 step-in (permanent pivot foot)
    • On the move - inside pivot foot (jab series)
    • Off the dribble - inside-outside
    • 3-point shot, bank shot
    • One-dribble pull-up
  • Advanced
    • Outside pivot foot (sweep series)
    • Side-step 3s
    • Crossover jumpers - cross, between, behind
    • Spin move
      • pull-up (drop step, spin)
      • half spin (fake)
    • Stepback
    • Fadeaway
      • Nash one-legged - come back and shoot off the back foot
      • Nowitzki - the non-dominant foot is back
      • Kobe (Nash) spin - spin on the back foot
      • other options include drop step and spin, shooting off the front leg
    • Freeze pull-up
      • outside-inside footwork
      • set-up - inside-out move, hesi (skip, float, or stutter), push crossover
    • Stop separation
      • create separation by stopping faster than your defender
      • Speed stop - inside-outside stop, shot
      • Speed stop exchange - behind the back dribble, foot replacement, shot
      • Drag pullback
        • inside-outside stride stop, dribble foot ahead
        • crossover, under (the outside leg), behind the back
        • can hop back to land on two (foot replacement)
        • counters
      • Inverted drag
        • take one more step with the inside foot (inverted foot), bring the ball back between the legs, allows you to stop ready to shoot
      • Punch drag
        • last dribble and outside foot hit at the same time, foot replacement, shotup
